Education has a significant effect to the process of increasing the quality of human source. Education is expected to be one of media to prepare the youth generation that ready to face the real fast dynamic development of science and technology. All of study subjects at school have their own role, and it is no exception for mathematics because as we know that on the process of teaching learning mathematics there are aims and from this aims of learning mathematics we can overcome the role of mathematics at the case of creating good quality of students.
Now we want to focus at the mathematics subject. There are many kind of way to teach mathematics, and the most popular method in the world nowadays is the method with contextual problem as a major, and one kind of this method is Realistic Mathematics Education.
Indonesia has wisdom to improving the quality of their national education through developing international level of school. The school with international level label should be able to apply such kind of based on problem teaching method like a realistic mathematics education.
Lesson study being one media to facilitated the teacher to be able to apply good method of teaching mathematics. Through this lesson study the teacher have a change to doing research in the aim to improving the quality of teaching learning mathematics. The teacher competences that need to be improved are: the competence to developing realistic mathematics education, the competence to developing the mathematical thinking and the competence to developing discussion method through various interactions with the problem solving and investigation method. These competences could be able to improved through doing lesson study.
